BIEDLER--June L. The staff of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center mourns the death of June L. Biedler, Ph.D. Dr. Biedler, recognized for her groundbreaking work in cancer biology, particularly her discovery of the role of gene amplification in drug resistance, worked at the Center for 35 years until her retirement in 1994. She began her career at our institution when she joined the laboratory of Joseph A. Burchenal, M.D., a pioneer in the field of cancer chemotherapy. She was later appointed Chairman of the Cell Biology and Genetics Program in the Sloan-Kettering Institute, a position she held until her retirement. Dr. Biedler's research on drug resistance influenced the development of new strategies for cancer therapy, including combination therapies to more effectively treat the disease. Thousands of patients have benefited from her work and countless more will benefit in the future. We extend our sincere condolences to her family. Craig B.
