JUNE PRICE Obituary

PRICE--June. June Price, scholar and practitioner of psychiatric nursing, beloved by family and friends and known for her extraordinary capacity for empathy and compassion, died peacefully at her home in New York City on May 16. She was 77. June received a BS from the University of Michigan, a MA from the American University of Beirut, and a doctorate from New York University, which she pursued while simultaneously directing the nursing department at Kingsboro Psychiatric Center in Brooklyn. Her doctoral thesis focused on the relationship histories of mothers reported for child abuse. After a long career practicing nursing at various institutions throughout New York City, June taught as an Assistant Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey, and later volunteered for many years as a mental health therapist for the American Red Cross where she provided critical support to victims of disasters, both locally and nationally. Her calm demeanor and caring style helped many people through the worst days of their lives, and after. Even throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, June continued to help all of her clients by calling them weekly. Although June lived and worked primarily in New York City, she also worked in Beirut, Puerto Rico, and London. In addition to her work, her great loves were dance, food, travel, cats, and The New York Times crossword. Her greatest love of all was her late husband, Bob Brieff, whom she married at a ceremony in St. Paul's Chapel of Columbia University in 1979. She spent many years caring for him towards the end of his life so that he could remain in their home. June is survived by many loving family members, including Arleen, Robert, Michael, Allegra, Oliver and Agatha, as well as many loving friends, and her dear cat, Jazz.

I worked with June when she worked for the NY State Office of Mental Health. I was not aware that she was involved in the nursing profession. RIP.

June's husband Bob Brieff was the son of my life partner (Gerson Goodman)'s first cousin, Charlotte.
Clear??
About once every 6 months or so, when June was in NYC, we would meet for lunch, at a Mexican restaurant on Ft. Washington Avenue near where she lived. I'm not sure how we first arranged it. Our meetings were pleasurable, and of course tasty. On the day of June's gathering in Claryville, I couldn't get a ride upstate. Instead, at 3 pm a friend and I hit the Mexican place and ate whatever we wanted in June's honor/memory. (I hope she would approve.)
It was a pleasure and an honor to know June.

June was in my class at Bennett High School in Buffalo, and we were part of the same crowd. All the boys had crushes on her, she was pretty and a good listener. We last saw her at our 20th reunion. It sounds like a good life, I´m glad.

June and Bobby. She would laugh at his jokes and would quiz us to try to guess the singer or name of the rockn'roll classics he loved so much.

I will miss June. We shared so many memories of times with her husband Bob and my first husband Duke. 40 years of friendship at least. She and I went on a Cruise of the Canadian Maritimes in 2017. Claryville won't be the same for me without her.

In 2017 June and I were on a Canadian Maritimes cruise. Charlie and Iris Breiner joined us. I have many memories of June on this trip as well as dinners in Claryville NY and Sunday matinees at Shadowland Theater in Ellenville NY. June and Bob were good friends. I will miss June.
