KAREN MELTZER Obituary

MELTZER--Karen Gerstenzang. The Brant Lake Camp family mourns the loss of Karen Gerstenzang Meltzer on November 18, 2021 at 86 years old. Karen passed away peacefully at her home overlooking beautiful Brant Lake. Karen was a Director of Brant Lake Camp beginning in 1962, when she and her cousin Bob Gersten succeeded her father Robert Gerstenzang. Karen will long be remembered by thousands of Brant Lakers for her grace, kindness, wisdom and superb organizational skills. Karen made Brant Lake Camp, the camp industry and support for the Adirondack region her life's work. A devotee of the outdoors, Karen was an avid hiker, tennis player, skier, swimmer, canoeist and accomplished equestrian. The Brant Lake Camp Waterfront is named in her honor. Karen will be deeply missed by her Brant Lake Camp family and we send condolences to her loving husband of 62 years, Laurence Meltzer, and her children Lorayne Meltzer (Ed Boyer) and Robert Meltzer, and her adoring grandchildren Merrin, Brock and Marlee Meltzer, and Dylan and Maya Barnes. In lieu of flowers, the Meltzer family prefers contributions to the following charities that were important to Karen throughout her life: Andrew Dreyer Memorial Fund: https://www.brantlake.com/ families/andrew-dreyer- memorial-fund/ Camp Vacamas/Hands In 4 Youth: www.hi4y.org The Adirondack Council: www.adirondackcouncil.org

I first met Karen in 1989 when I was placed by the YMCA summer program to work at BLC. Coming from Jamaica and traveling for the first time, the experience was daunting. However, Karen seamlessly guided and coordinated my summer, making the transition smooth and memorable.

In the summers that followed, I came to deeply appreciate of Karen's inclusive approach to working with people from diverse cultures. She, along with others at BLC, helped lay the foundation for the success of many individuals, myself included.

I hold Karen in my cherished memory, and I hope her legacy continues to inspire others. May her memory live on.

I had the pleasure of meeting Karen many years ago while on the job for Warren County Sheriffs Dept. She was an outstanding lady and so nice to show me around her house. It saddens me that the world has lost another Angel on this earth but she belongs to the Heavens now. Rest In Paradise Karen and thank you for the memory.

I was one of the Red Wing cohort -- in the mid-1940s-1950. What a wonderful time that was and how Karen stood out from our group. I remember that even then she was an excellent rider - beautiful form.
