KENNETH MENKEN Obituary

MENKEN--Kenneth Andrews, June 11, 2010. He was born in Vienna in 1931, to an Austrian mother and American father who had sold his seat on the New York stock exchange in 1928. His schooling began in England. His family moved to the United States before World War II. He graduated from the Hotchkiss School, attended the Ashville School, and graduated from Duke University. He excelled in soccer at Duke, was on the All-South team, and was a candidate for the Olympics when the Korean War broke out. He served in the Navy during the war and when he returned obtained an MBA from Wharton. After Wharton, he worked for a time in advertising at Foote, Cone & Belding, then started a financial career first at Smith Barney and finally at his own firm, Managers Capital Development which specialized in alternative investments. He was a Past President of The New England Society, a Past President of First New York Continental Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution; a member of the Sons of the Revolution at Fraunces Tavern and a member of Holland Lodge No. 8, F&AM. He was a member of the Union Club and the Maidstone Club. The son of the late N. Davis Menken, he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joan, and his mother Emma J. Harvey. A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, June 23, at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Fifth Ave. and 90th St. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
