To Pat Briody &the Briody family-Many thanks for the countless great times and music over the years . "May the earth rest easy over you when at last you lie under it.
May the earth rest so lightly over you that your spirit may be out from under it quickly, and up, and off , and on its way to God"

Pat used to call me #4; I called him #5. I'm grateful that my last time with him was the happy occasion of Lisa's wedding just ten days before he left us. He was Lisa's godfather. All of his kids, of whom he was so justifiably proud, were at the wedding. Pat sat next to me, #4, and looked great.

From that first day in Sept. '53 in the barracks to the reunions with Pat and Bobby (seems O'Brien couldn't appreciate trombones in his barracks room--at the 45th Pat said, "if O'B knew I was going to be a star, he might have been nicer to me") to the 50th, Pat was a special light in our lives. Prayers for his family. Receive his soul and present him to God the most high.

The world, Villanova, and VU Class of '57 alumni will never be the same without the inimitable, lovable, irascible "Worm" to make our lives brighter by his very being, with even a look at his impish face and twinkling eyes. Such great memories of The Villanovans. While he may be gone, physically, his memory and his music will be with us forever.

Pat was rarely without a smile and he sure smiled two years ago at the 50th. My best recollection of him is playing for the Litmus Blues graduation party in Bryn Mawr, a fitting conclusion to our time at VU. Rest in peace Pat, and our prayers go out to his family.

Although I met you 55 years ago at VU freshman orientation, and we shared many literature and other classes, my memories of you are sharp and pleasant. I know I will not be the only one to miss you at our next 57 reunion. Give our regards to Bobby, Dr. McGrath and Father Sullivan.

Pat gave us his music, humor, and warm friendship. Many of us have memories of "party rooms" filled with noise, smoke, laughter, and most of all, great music. My fondest memories are of occasional balmy spring evenings on campus when Pat and Bobby would give an impromptu melancholy concert.

Pat: Thank you for helping make our college years great! You may have left us, but you will not be forgotten.

Pat will always be rembered by his fellow Villanovans, Class of 1957, for his expressive trombone playing at Dixieland sessions and for his wonderful sense of humor. I was instrumental in getting him to attend our 50th class anniversary and, now that he's gone, I'm very glad to have re-met him there and to have had the opportunity to thank him for all the pleasure his music brought me and others at VU.
