LAWRENCE SILK

SILK--Lawrence, 86, died at BayState Hospital on May 21. He was born in Detroit to Herbert and Gertrude Silk. When he was five, they moved to Manhattan, where Larry was inspired at school by the documentaries of Pare Lorentz. An editing class with Carl Lerner was further inspiration; soon after he worked as an assistant editor to Ricky Leacock. So began his 50-yr career; he cut Pumping Iron, Wild Man Blues, and Oscar winners Marjoe, American Dream, and One Survivor Remembers. An Academy member since '02, he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by American Cinema Editors in '13. His wife Betty lives in their home in Monterey, MA. Larry is survived by her, their son, Daniel, and his brother, Bob.
