Lenah Northcut Obituary

1912 - 2007
Lenah B. Taylor Northcut, age 94, died January 13, 2007 in Garland, Texas. A 3rd generation Texan, Lenah B. Taylor was born September 17, 1912 in Hogansville, Texas to Lewis and Cordia Gordon Taylor. She was orphaned at 5 years. In 1936, Lenah and John Dero Northcut, Sr., moved to Dallas, Texas. She was a retail associate at various department stores, retiring as department manager from Montgomery Ward. After 38 yrs in Dallas, she spent her retirement years in Emory, Texas. Lenah enjoyed her hobbies of sewing clothes and drapes, working in her flower and vegetable garden. Her passion was oil painting landscapes and flowers. Mrs. Northcut was a noted artist whose works are currently exhibited in U.S. and Canada. Emory Public Library will be displaying one of her works. In 1994, Lenah moved to Garland, Texas, living near her daughters. Lenah was a member of Emory Baptist Church, Emory United Methodist Church, and First Baptist Church, Garland. She is survived by children: Billie D. Northcut (wife Billie), Abernathy, Texas; John D. Northcut, Jr. (wife Jocelyne Lortie), Montreal, Quebec; Joe Ann Northcut McIver (husband Bob), Garland, Texas; and Mary Beth Northcut Sooter (husband John), Rowlett, Texas. Also surviving are her nephew, Phillip W. Taylor, Mesquite, Texas, and nieces, Linda Ginovichi, Janice Meade, and Cindy Melville, all living in Utah. Mrs. Northcut has 8 grandchildren: Melinda Steele (husband Don), Brenda Price (husband Danny), William (wife Deana) Northcut, Sonya McIver, Kathryn Anthony (husband Jeff), Tom Sooter (wife Luis), Cynthia Sooter, and Rebecca Sooter. There are 11 great-grandchildren: James Steele (wife Mindy), Jeff Steele, Patricia Lemmons, Shawna Lewis (husband Dr. Ryan), Dustin Hendon, Brandon Northcut, Lindsay Northcut, Hannah Anthony, Rhett Sooter, Julia Sansing, Travis Sooter. Preceded in death by husband, John D. Northcut, Sr., brother Wilburn Taylor and sisters, Bertie Melville and Derinda Ann Taylor. Visitation will be on January 19, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rest Haven in Rockwall, Texas. A memorial service will be held on January 20, 2007 at 2 pm in the historic Smyrna Church in Rains County Texas, followed by internment in the Northcut family plot at the Smyrna Cemetery. James A. Toles will officiate the service, with Darrell Strong as soloist and grandson Tom Sooter, USAF, will deliver the eulogy.
