Leona Helmsley

HELMSLEY--Leona. The Trustees, Overseers, Physicians, Faculty and Staff of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend Leona Helmsley. She and her late husband, Harry Helmsley, a Life Governor of the former New York Hospital, were long and dedicated supporters of the Medical Center. Their generosity established the Helmsley Medical Tower, which provides valuable clinical and living space, and funded two major centers, the Helmsley Cardiovascular Center and the Helmsley Rehabilitation Center. In 2006, Mrs. Helmsley helped to establish advanced facilities for colon and rectal surgery--the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Center for Colon and Rectal Surgery and the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Surgical Suite. Mrs. Helmsley was a committed advocate for medical research, education and the needs of patients and their families. Her legacy will be important to New Yorkers for generations to come. We join with all those who knew her in mourning her loss.
