LEONARD ELMAN

1931 - 2025

ELMAN--Leonard S., passed away on January 1, 2025 at the age of 93, survived by his wife of 71 years, Elise, his children, Michael and Susan, son-in-law, Joseph Ronson, grandchildren, Hannah, Peter, Jordan and Tyson and many nieces and nephews. Born in 1931 in Brooklyn, Len attended Midwood HS, followed by Syracuse University (1952), where he and Elise met, and Harvard Law School (1955). Len was a well-known attorney, specializing in real estate and banking law. An avid historian, Len obtained an MA in History from NYU (1970). He enjoyed summers in East Hampton, jazz, theater, tennis, skiing, good food and wine, and quality time with friends and family. He was a scholar, known for his encyclopedic knowledge and wry sense of humor. Len co-founded two American history study groups at the Harvard Club. A Trustee of Syracuse University's Board of Visitors, he endowed a visiting writers fund in memory of his brother, Richard. He was Board President of the Jewish Child Care Association and a Trustee of the Backer Foundation. Service Sunday, January 5th, at 11am at "The Riverside" 76th St. and Amsterdam Ave.
