LEONARD LAUDER Obituary

LAUDER--Leonard A. The Trustees, faculty, and staff of the University of Pennsylvania are deeply saddened by the death of alumnus and Trustee Emeritus Leonard A. Lauder. In all areas of life, Leonard was known for his vision, drive, collegiality, and generosity. His remarkable service to the University reflected all these gifts, and Penn is surely a better place today because of his extraordinary leadership. In addition to his distinguished tenure as a Trustee, Leonard was a leader throughout the University, serving on the boards of the School of Arts and Sciences and the Joseph H. Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies, which he and his brother Ronald, a fellow Penn alumnus, co-founded in memory of their father. Leonard and the Lauder Family made possible the construction of Lauder College House with the largest capital gift to the University at the time. In 2022, Leonard made a landmark gift, the largest private gift ever to an American nursing school, to establish the Leonard A. Lauder Community Care Nurse Practitioner Program, a first-of-its-kind, tuition-free program. Many Penn scholarships, fellowships, professorships, and facilities will bear Leonard's name. For his tremendous commitment, Penn presented Leonard with the Alumni Award of Merit, the Medal for Distinguished Achievement, and the Wharton Dean's Medal, and honored him at the Institute of Contemporary Art's 50th anniversary gala. After graduating from Penn, Leonard transformed Estee Lauder into one of the world's leading cosmetics purveyors. Leonard was also a philanthropic leader beyond his alma mater, known for his generosity toward healthcare and arts institutions. We will miss Leonard dearly and offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends, particularly his wife, Judy, his brother, Ronald, his sons, William and Gary, and his grandchildren and great-grand- children. Ramanan Raghavendran, Chair, Board of Trustees Julie Beren Platt, Vice Chair, Board of Trustees J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, President

I only met Leonard once and he inspires me to this day. A warm, friendly and genuine man, the kind you so rarely find today. May God bless and send his graces to the Lauder family where he will be missed.
