LAUDER--Leonard. The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) community notes with tremendous sadness the death of our longtime friend Leonard Lauder. Leonard was a philanthropic leader, driven by a deep desire to make the world a better place and regarded for his passionate dedication to many causes, including the arts, culture, and medical research. In 1989, Leonard and his late wife Evelyn established the first multidisciplinary breast diagnostic and treatment center at MSK. Twenty years later, Leonard and Evelyn's support led to the opening of the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at MSK, which solidified MSK's position as a leader in breast cancer research and care. The center not only provides the best available breast cancer care but also integrates the latest imaging technologies that help diagnose and guide therapy for breast cancer as well as many other forms of the disease. In addition to all that he did for MSK directly, Leonard served as Chairman and then Honorary Chairman of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Launched by Evelyn and Larry Norton, MD, Norna S. Sarofim Chair in Clinical Oncology and Medical Director of the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center, BCRF has made research grants to MSK totaling more than $63 million. Leonard's insightful and thoughtful contributions will continue to benefit people with cancer and their families at MSK and around the world for years to come. We extend our deepest sympathies to Leonard's entire family, as well as our heartfelt gratitude for his support of MSK's mission of ending cancer for life.
