LORRIANE KLERMAN

KLERMAN--Lorraine Vogel, 81, died on August 26, 2010 from complications of cancer. She was a pioneering health services researcher with particular interest in economically deprived women and children. She graduated from Hunter College High School and Cornell University and received her M.P.H and Dr. P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Klerman was a Professor and Director of the Institute for Children, Youth and Family Policy at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, where in 2010 she was the recipient its Mentoring Award. In 1996, she received the American Public Health Association's Martha May Eliot Award for extraordinary health service to mothers and children. In September 2010, she was posthumously selected to receive the Title V Lifetime Achievement Award from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Dr. Klerman had four children, Jacob, Elizabeth, Karen and Dan, and eight grandchildren, all of whom survive her.
