LOUIS MELTZ

MELTZ-- Louis Solomon, passed away on April 2, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Until just a few days ago, his doctors were hopeful that the treatments he was undergoing would be successful. His passing has been a sudden shock to all of us. A founding partner of the law firm Seham, Seham, Meltz & Petersen, he will be remembered by all who knew him for his keen mind, steadfast friendship, and unwavering civility. Louis was born in Pretoria, South Africa on Jan. 20, 1961. He earned his law degree from the University of Witwatersrand and served in the South African military for two years before coming to the United States in 1985. At Seham, Louis managed the firm's extensive work in the maritime industry, creating American Maritime Safety, a non-profit corporation providing legal support and safety training to the shipping and cruise ship industries. Louis was a renaissance man: a Latin scholar, an avid student of Torah, a marathon runner, and, above all, a dedicated family man. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joann, his three children of whom he was so proud -- Joseph, Lauren, and Danielle -- and beloved sister Sharon Janovic.
