MADELEINE CHAPMAN Obituary

CHAPMAN--Madeleine. Madeleine "Mimi" Chapman passed away September 14, 2023 in the presence of her family and closest friends. She was raised in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden, attended the Montesano school in Switzerland, and came to the United States in 1964, where she worked for American Express at the World's Fair. She married Richard Chapman in 1967 and they raised their three children Anna, Andrew and Sarah in New York City, on a farm in Connecticut, and in Klosters, Switzerland. She has three grandchildren: Oscar, Ike and Max-Harry. Mimi was active in the SVEA Organization and at the Swedish Church. She is survived by her ex-husband Richard Chapman, her three children and son-in-law Ronald Perelman, her grandsons, and her family in Sweden, including her brother Christer and niece Daniela. Cool and elegant, ever beautiful without caring a whit, Mimi was beloved by everyone who could withstand a touch of acerbity. With no fuss, she was an utterly devoted mother and friend, and possessed a deep instinct to connect with and care for others. She loved NYC but seemed immune to its pressures - she had a unique simplicity, peace and calm, and a huge sense of fun. We will miss her so very much.

Mimi and Richard befriended my mother, Marilyn Mayne, in Klosters in the mid 80s. Mimi was elegant, so chic on the slopes and terribly kind. I´m so very sorry to hear of her passing. My best to her family and to Richard.

Sending comfort to the Chapman Family. I will remember Madeleine´s kindness, softness and love for her children with especially warm memories of her so at home with Andrew in Stockholm and enjoying travel with Anna in Arizona. May she rest in peace.
