MARILYN JAFFE-RUIZ

JAFFE-RUIZ--Marilyn. Marilyn Jaffe-Ruiz EdD RN., peacefully passed away at home on June 19, 2023, surrounded by family and friends as she courageously battled breast cancer. Marilyn earned her nursing degree from the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in 1963, followed by a Master's degree in mental health nursing from New York University and a doctorate (EdD) from Teachers College, Columbia University. From 1985 to 1992, she served as the dean of the Lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University. Later, she held positions as the university's vice provost and provost. Marilyn's dedication to her work made a significant impact on the nursing community. She established an endowed scholarship for first-generation nursing students at Pace University, ensuring access to quality education for future generations. Alongside her professional achievements, Marilyn devoted her time and efforts to AHRC NYC, serving as a board member for many years and as President for one term. Her contributions to AHRC NYC were invaluable in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, including her dear brother Joel, who predeceased her. Marilyn's legacy will be remembered and cherished by her beloved husband, Victor Reuben Ruiz, and all whose lives she touched. The family held a private graveside funeral to honor Marilyn's memory, finding solace and support. A memorial service is planned at Pace University in the upcoming academic year to celebrate her remarkable life, allowing colleagues, friends, and students to commemorate her accomplishments. Donations can be made to the AHRC NYC Foundation to pay tribute to Marilyn and support the cause she cared deeply about.
