MARJORIE ENGEL Obituary

ENGEL--Marjorie, 76. A beacon of compassion and fairness, lifetime advocate of the potential of all children, and fashionable figure outfitted in signature black coat and slacks, Marge Engel died on November 23rd of lung cancer. Outspoken in gratitude for her wonderful life, she approached dying with equanimity and peace. A longtime preschool teacher, she enriched the lives of hundreds of young children. Marge's life was made extra special by eight grandchildren, Lauren and Jeremy, Hannah and Gabriel, Dylan and Lia, and Maya and Jade: the children of her sons, John and Peter, and their wives, Yung Yung and Cheryl; and of her niece and nephew, Nancy and Michael, and their spouses, Michael and Maria. All of us will forever miss her grace and unconditional love. Sister of the late Elizabeth (Bitsy) Greenfield, Marge is survived by her devoted brother, Robert Conner, and his wife, Ann; her ex-husband, Stephen Engel; cousins Judy Saccucci, Ruth Modlin, and Kim Dana Kupperman; and a legion of loyal and loving friends. A Memorial will be on Saturday, December 10, 5pm, New York Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marge's name to a charity to be announced at the memorial.

I will miss Marge's generous spirit and no-nonsense approach to the world. And the flourish of an elegant silk scarf that graced her signature black coat and slacks.
