MARTHA KELLNER Obituary

KELLNER--Martha Bicknell. Bicky Kellner passed away on January 12, with her husband of 58 years, George Kellner, by her side. Born in Palo Alto, California, she and her three sisters were raised by their single-parent father, a medical doctor, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Bicky graduated from Columbia University and held an MFA in Child Psychology. In 1970, she and George survived a commercial airplane crash while she was five months pregnant with their second child, Catherine--a testament to her resilience and strength. Bicky was a person who could make you laugh, who truly listened, who never exaggerated, and who remained loyal and curious throughout her life. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her son, Peter B. Kellner; her daughter, Catherine Kellner; her grandchildren, Ewen and Viola Avery, and Morgan and Grayson Kellner; and her sister, Alesia Bicknell.

I met Bicky at Hazelden in 2012 and she made a lasting impression. I couldn't let go and only realized today that she passed away when I received a notification her inbox was full so I googled her name for an obituary. She was a wise, wonderful and amazing woman inside and out. I pray that her memory brings comfort to her family.

Catherine, I'm in the process of writing an afterword for a second edition of 35 Miles From Shore. I recently decided to remove the 35 Miles From Shore website. I remember you contacting me, but I couldn't remember your name. I searched your parents name and found this obituary. Sorry for your loss. I hope you don't mind if i share your story.

I worked at Kellner DiLeo from 1984-1990. I had the privilege to chat with Bicky when she visited the office and husband, George. Bicky was a true lady. I remember her friendliness and sometimes funny conversations.
Prayers for her family and friends to get through this enormous loss.

I recently found out about Bicky´s passing. It´s such sad news. I remember Bicky, and George as young newly weds, at my sister´s apartment, and the girls during the Brearley years. Many happy years, and memories. My heart goes out to George, Catherine, and Peter, and extended family, so, so, sorry for your loss, Mercedes

I walked the Camino several years with Bicky, Betsy and Alice. Bicky was a bright light -she was curious, adventurous and a marvelous storyteller - always with a twinkle in her eye!
Blessings to the Kellner family as you grieve her passing. I am grieving too.

Farewell to Bicky, one of the most engaging, intellectually curious women I have met. Many will miss the topical conversations and warmth found in the Kellner library and the graciousness of her table.
