MARY VAN NOSTRAND Obituary

VAN NOSTRAND--Mary (Burns), 82, of Asheville, NC, formerly of Huntington, NY, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011. Predeceased by her husbands, John Richard Burns, who died in 1982, and Hugh Van Nostrand, who died in 1999; and by two sons, James T. Burns and Stephen G. Burns. She is survived by her sons, Richard D. Burns and partner, Robert Berg, of New York, NY, and Peter M. Burns and wife, Allyson, and their children Mackenzie, Abby and Maggie of Fairfield, CT; two stepdaughters, Barbara Van Nostrand and her daughter Nicole of Atlanta, GA, and Jean Hughes and husband, Wayne, and their children Tyler and Katie of Richardson, TX; daughter-in-law, Carrie Teegardin and children Warner and Kate of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Bonnie McNamara of Alpine, TX, Suzanne Jones of Brewster, MA, and Kathleen Montagne of Hendersonville, NC. Born December 23, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN to Dale and Ethel Snure and lived in Huntington, Long Island, NY for twenty-five years. She was a 1950 graduate of Mount Holyoke College. She moved to Hendersonville in 1993 and to the Givens Estates in Asheville in 2006. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and choir. Services 3pm Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Holyoke College, 50 College Street, South Hadley, Massachusetts 01075, or to the Givens Estates Resident Assistance Ministry, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
