MELVIN SORCHER

SORCHER--Dr. Melvin. Dr. Melvin Sorcher of Westport, Connecticut, passed away November 15, 2025, at age 95. Acclaimed organizational psychologist, author and beloved husband for nearly seven decades. Born February 26, 1930, Dr. Sorcher grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. A U.S. Army sergeant during the Korean War, he got a Ph.D from Syracuse University and became a pioneer in the field of industrial-organizational psychology. He developed and implemented "behavior modeling" for business and other non-clinical settings, an approach widely adopted to train managers. He headed General Electric's corporate behavioral research group, was worldwide director of management development for pharmaceutical company Richardson Vicks, and authored and co-authored four books including "Changing Supervisor Behavior" and "Predicting Executive Success." He was recognized by the American Psychological Association's Industrial and Organizational Psychology division for distinguished professional practice, including work to bring behavior modeling to address apartheid in South Africa. Before retiring at 72, he started a consulting firm specializing in CEO succession planning. He is survived by loving wife Sylvia Sorcher; sons Michael Sorcher, Robert Sorcher, Peter Sorcher; grandchildren Sara Sorcher, Gary Sorcher, Danielle Sorcher, Jessica Sorcher, Rachael Sorcher, Caroline Sorcher, Kaya Sorcher and Shea Sorcher.
