Mike Bennett was an inspiring scientist. His early work on the biology of electric fish was foundational for everyone who has since worked on these fascinating animals. He also contributed richly to the field of synaptic transmission, both chemical and electrical. He will be missed.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. I am deeply grateful for his extraordinary generosity. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have had the privilege of being mentored by him, both during my PhD and beyond. His guidance has been invaluable, and I will truly miss the insights he shared.

Michael Bennett has been a mentor to me, an inspiration, and a reminder of how to do science, for my entire career. I started reading his early papers on electric organs and electroreceptors in fish, and have constantly referred back to them in nearly every publication. He was an outstanding scientist, and a thoughtfull and kind teacher. Thank you Mike Bennett for so much and for such a rich life.
