MICHAEL GRANT

GRANT--Michael Donald. Michael Donald Grant Jr., of Greenwich, CT, died peacefully on September 19, 2025 at age 87. "Mike," eldest son of M. Donald and Alice Grant, born Feb. 1, 1938 in NYC; raised in Cedarhurst, NY. Graduated from Deerfield Academy and Williams College, a good student and athlete throughout. Served in the US Navy, then married Elizabeth ("Betsy") Lawall (Grant) in 1964; moved to Greenwich in 1975. A career in financial services: Partner at Fahnestock & Co.; later joined Gabelli & Co. Enjoyed tennis, squash, golf, and avidly followed his NY Mets. A legacy of character and kindness: board member and past president Pathways (mental health). A raconteur, keen listener, and eloquent letter-writer. Maintained sobriety for his final 31 years. He derived great joy from being a family man and worthy father. Michael wrote his memoirs in 2024: "Veni, Vidi, Gratus Sum." He espoused "4 life rules" passed on by his late cousin Jimmy Grant: 1) Show up. 2) Try hard. 3) Build up/encourage others. 4) Be grateful. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Sheila, cousin James, niece Alice, and his son Michael III. He is survived by Betsy - his wife of 60 years, sons Andrew (Emily) and Luke (Suzanne), daughter Bettina McCarthy (Tyler), brother Tim and sister Patsy Warner (and families), and five grandchildren - who called him "Papa."
