MILTON GATCH Obituary

GATCH--Milton McCormick "Mac", died on February 21 at his home in New York. He was born in Cincinnati on November 22, 1932. A graduate of Walnut Hills High School, Haverford College, the Episcopal Theological School and Yale University, he taught at the Wooster School, Shimer College, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Missouri. He was Dean, Provost and Librarian at Union Theological Seminary and a longtime co-priest-in-charge at the Chapel of St. James the Fisherman in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. In New York, he was a member of The Grolier Club, The Century Association and the parish of St. Luke in the Fields. Ione Georganna White Gatch, his wife of 61 years, died in 2017. He is survived by his daughter Ione Miller, his daughter Lucinda Poindexter and her husband Daniel, his son George C. W. Gatch and his wife Erica Fite; thirteen grandchildren (Jeff, Michael, Marcy and Andrew Miller; Noel, Nicholas, Georganna and Alice Poindexter; Bryce, Logan and Aurora Gatch, and Lazlo and Eva Miles Horvath), and his brother Thomas. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Mac Gatch Memorial Fund at the Chapel of St. James the Fisherman, PO Box 1334, Wellfleet, MA 02667. His memory will be celebrated at a service at the Church of St. Luke in the Fields, 487 Hudson St., New York, NY 10014 on Sunday, February 26 at 3:00 PM. There will also be a memorial at the Chapel of St. James the Fisherman in Wellfleet this coming summer.

Sorry to hear about Mac. We taught together at Shimer and had lunch together a few times when he was in Chicago and me in Milwaukee. Many good memories (academic and social). I'm 2 yrs. his senior. Jim Green
