MINNA KOTKIN Obituary

KOTKIN--Minna Joan. A devoted educator and trailblazing employment lawyer, Minna Joan Kotkin died on September 30, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. She was 70. For 37 years, Minna was a professor of law at Brooklyn Law School, where, through the clinics she created and led, she modeled the best example of public interest litigation, mentoring and inspiring her students. Minna was born to Edward Kotkin and Ann Ludwig on January 13, 1951, in Philadelphia, where she was also raised. She graduated from Barnard College in 1972 and went on to Rutgers University Law School, where she was the editor-in- chief of the law review. Before joining the Brooklyn faculty, Minna was litigation director of New York Lawyers for the Public Interest and a litigation associate at Proskauer Rose. Minna is survived by her sons, Eli and Sam Stillman; their father, Joseph Stillman; and her partner, Deena Hellman.

Just now learning about Minna's passing. She was editor of the Rutgers-Camden Law Review and a very dedicated student leader. I mentioned her name to Meyer Kotkin, a member of our congregation, Beth Tikvah, and a professor of mathematics, who believed that he and Minna were related. Meyer passed only a few days ago. Both not only had great careers but were terrific human beings. From her classmate, David Gladfelter.
