Mordy will always live in my heart; he was a model and dear friend from my childhood. His first wife Ruth Kane Rochlin and my mother enjoyed a long friendship, and the two couples often socialized in NYC, when Mordy wasn't playing tennis or working!
I reconnected with Mordy a few years ago, delighted to find him alive and kicking at age 102! We had fine visits in his Murray Hill apartment, talking about his first wife, my parents, tennis, world events, the ACLU. He lost the ability to have drop-in visitors in his last years, so I didn't see him the last couple of times I went to NYC (from my California home), but I understand he just didn't have the energy. After a long and productive lie, I'm sure he is resting in peace!

I was privileged to know Mordie casually through the New York State Bar Association and Central Synagogue. Of course, Mordie remains a legend in the world of trusts-and-estates law, so as a tax attorney, I knew him. I greatly admire the fact that Mordie kept working in his profession (and that his law firm welcomed him). Mordie taught and inspired generations of attorneys. He was a superb attorney, who set a stellar example of skill, integrity, kindness, and devotion to his clients and to the bar. All who knew him, knew he was a special human being. His memory will continue to inspire us and be a blessing. (I would love to still be practicing law at 100+ years old!)

More and his first wife Ruth were good friends of my parents. I remember him well from the 50s: his upright posture, his keen sense of humor, his love of wine and fine dining, his wide-ranging interests. May his memory be a blessing.
