MORTIMER SACKLER Obituary

SACKLER--Mortimer D. The Trustees and staff of The Metropolitan Museum of Art mourn the passing of Mortimer Sackler, an esteemed Benefactor of the Museum since 1976. Through the generosity of Dr. Sackler and other members of his family, the Metropolitan Museum established The Sackler Wing Galleries (for Asian art), The Sackler Gallery for Egyptian Art, and The Sackler Wing, which houses The Temple of Dendur, the full-scale monument that was built ca. 15 B.C. and was a gift to the United States from Egypt in 1965. Dr. Sackler also endowed The Dr. Mortimer D. Sackler and Theresa Sackler Gallery in the European Paintings Galleries and donated funds for related acquisitions. His benevolence has enhanced many areas of the Museum and will be appreciated by visitors for generations to come. We extend condolences to his entire family. James R. Houghton, Chairman Thomas P. Dear Kathe,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your father, Mortimer. Since I have had the opporunity to meet you and Susan, I have become aware of the signicicant contributions your father and his extended family have made to further the sciences and arts worldwide that many of us so appreciate. My thoughts are with you and your family.
