MORTON BLUM Obituary
BLUM--Morton "Mort." Morton Blum, "Mort," Be- loved partner and husband of Carol Blum of 36 years, passed away on May 2, 2022 surrounded by family and friends at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He was 89 years old. Born November 6, 1932, he was an avid lover of golf, luxury sports cars and corny one line jokes. He especially loved Mel Brooks' "The 2000 Year Old Man." He is the son of predeceased Louis and Doree Blum and brother to his predeceased twin sister Joan Blum Spodek. Born in Brooklyn, NY he grew up in Seagate, a seaside community in Brooklyn. He attended Cheshire Preparatory Academy for high school, and graduated from Michigan University where he was a member of ZBT Fraternity. He then graduated, and was very proud to be, a member of the second class of The Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He served in the Army in San Antonio, TX as a physician after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Anita Kaskel, daughter of the late Alfred L. Kaskel, in 1953. A specialist in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Blum maintained a private practice for over 22 years in Manhattan with his partner Lester Honig. He was an attending physician at New York Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital and Gracie Square. Dr. Blum was an excellent and respected diagnostician, with a photographic memory and admired bedside manner. He was invited and honored to present at Lenox Hill Hospital's Grand Rounds three times. For most physicians, this is an honor only bestowed once. In 1985, he and Anita Blum mutually agreed to divorce after 32 years of marriage. In 1986 he retired from medicine and created CBM Limited, a real estate and design investment firm with Carol Kohlreiter. Carol and Mort became inseparable, working and living together and marrying after 10 years. Even though Dr. Blum formally left medicine over 35 years ago, he was always interested in people who were sick or had medical questions. He loved to help people and did so until the day he entered the hospital. He is survived by his three children Ken Blum (Lindsay), Bruce Blum (Dr. Susan Blum), Nancy Blum Feinglass, his stepson and stepdaughter, Todd and Viv Levy, his stepdaughter, Michele Bender, and his grandchildren, Westley Blum Berman, Jeremy Blum, (Tatiana), Corey Blum, Avery Blum, Benjamin Feinglass, Gillian Feinglass and step-grandchildren, Tyler and Charlotte Levy, Lily and Jonathan Bender and his great-grandchildren, Adler Berman, Ava Berman, Sofia Anita Blum and Bailey Bender, the dog who adored him. We know Mort is on a golf course in heaven giving everyone little pointers and making funny comments. He was loved and he is missed.
