SIMON--Murray I., age 96, who passed away peacefully on August 25, 2021, was the adored son of Max and Sarah, treasured brother of Frank (Marge), Ray (Evelyn), Bess and Bea (Jerry Schechter), beloved husband to Florence Charwat (first family), father to Wendy Marcia (Mark Zlotlow), Michael, Barbara Ann (Ezra Teitelbaum), and beloved husband to Juana Romero (second family), and father to Viviana, Alexandra and Sarah. Murray was grandfather to seven, great-grandfather to six, an admired uncle and a treasured cousin. An educator to his core, he was a 1942 graduate of Boys' High School, Brooklyn, NY and New York University where he earned his BS (1948), MA (1952) and PhD (1965). A World War II Purple Heart Veteran as well as a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor, Murray taught at Nathaniel Hawthorne Junior High School in Yonkers, NY and went on to work in higher education. From 1970 until the late 20th century, he served as an educational advisor to numerous developing nations in both Latin America and Africa. When asked how he would like to be remembered, he answered that he "hopes to be thought of as an example of how one person can make a positive difference on others and on society."
