MYRIAM SARACHIK Obituary

SARACHIK--Dr. Myriam. The City College of New York mourns the passing of Dr. Myriam Sarachik, Distinguished Professor of Physics and beloved member of our faculty since 1964. Dr. Sarachik made several fundamental contributions to physics, the kind that reorient whole branches of the field. At CCNY, she was a patient and generous mentor, a wise leader and an inspirational presence. Outside CCNY, her work received repeated recognition, most recently in The American Physical Society's Medal for Exceptional Achievement in Research. She is appropriately celebrated as a pioneering woman in a field dominated by men when she started her career, but less so today in consequence of her efforts and shining example. We will miss her immensely. Vince Boudreau, President

Professor Sarachik taught me Physics at CCNY, 1966. Best course, best teacher I had during those 4 years. By far.

Among Dr. Sarachik's public activities was her steadfast support of the Committee of Concerned Scientists, which advocates on behalf of scientists, engineers, and scholars under physical and professional attack by hostile governments. We thank her.
