Dr. Lauersen was indeed a champion for women's health. He was also a skilled surgeon, and a kind and warm person. I had endometriosis, and a right ovarian cyst which had burst ,both causing me great pain. Dr. Lauersen was my solace during these painful years. A great man in so many ways. Thank You, Doctor. Rest in Peace.

I'm so terribly sorry to know that Dr. Neils Lauersen is no longer with us. He saved my life when I was 21 years old. I had a cyst that ruptured on my ovary. I didn't have medical insurance at the time. He rushed me from his office to the hospital after doing a sonogram and saw why I was in excruciating pain. Dr. Niels Lauersen saved my life. I went to about six other doctors and all of them said nothing was wrong with me. Dr. Lauersen was the one that saved me. I needed emergency surgery. I am 65 years old now and think about him all the time. I'm sure Dr. N. Lauersen is still helping women in heaven. RIP Dr. Lauersen.

Dr. Laurersen went beyond what any doctor would. He worked non-stop and was an advocate for women. He truly cared about all of us. And he realized at the time how unjust the system was to women with infertility. When I went to see him, it wasn't covered under the healthcare system and we all suffered. But Dr. Lauersen managed around it - in all of our best interest and was punished for doing good. I am another one of the lucky ones to have a beautiful, smart, and thoughtful daughter! She's 30 years old. Dr. Lauersen made it happen. He changed our lives and devoted himself to the creation of others in the best way possible. I think of him often and know he's there looking on us and smiling.

Dr. Lauersen was an amazing man & a super md! I was told by 2 other OB?GYN I probably will never have children. I am now mom to 4 beautiful children in their 20's, all thanks to this wonderful man. Dr Lauersen was first my gyn was introduced to him by my mother when I became a young lady n he continued on being my gyn he delivered my son on January 13,1987 n saved our lives because my blood pressure went up so it was an emergency c section n he also delivered my daughter on June 5 1988 I just want to say he was a great doctor for me n I will b forever grateful for having him as my doctor

Niels was such a dedicated advocate for women´s reproductive health, health care and rights over their what happens to their bodies. I first saw Dr Lauersen as a patient in his Mount Sinai office. He was a remarkable doctor and I continued to see him in his Park Avenue location. He was approachable, warm, intelligent, and non-judgemental. He would call you at midnight if you had a problem. One time after an office visit he walked out on to Park Avenue and hailed me a taxi (it was late) and asked me to call the office to let him know I had gotten home. He never took a co-pay, when I was in nursing school and had bad insurance he would write off my visits. RIP. You will be missed

Rest in Paradise Dear Dr Laurensen ..At 11 weeks pregnant I was the girl in his book! I called him at 11 pm ..not a patient; but pregnant and having a problem. He told me to be at his office in the morning and not to worry. He saved my pregnancy and my baby. That was 28 years ago. I just googled him for my daughter who he saved who is now pregnant and sad to learn of his passing. Forever grateful... RIP

To the family of the wonderful Dr. Lauersen-
I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the good doctors passing. He immensely helped my late wife thru several surgeries for endometriosis, counseling, caring and ultimately one round of fertility treatment which resulted in a most wonderful pregnancy and the birth of our daughter. Dr. Lauersen, my wife and daughter were featured in a NY Daily News article (Sunday, May 15, 1988; NY Life section) with pictures; describing the turmoil and anguish from infertility and then ultimate joy upon the pregnancy and birth. I will forever hold dear in my heart the night then turning into morning the good doctor stayed, presumably catching catnaps, then finally delivering by emergency C-section a beautiful baby girl. I am well over 6 feet tall, and this man stood as a giant of a man, physically and spiritually.
I am so sorry for your loss - He will always be recalled with extreme fondness.
I am the process of downsizing, came across the NY Daily News article and planned on reaching out to at least convey my heartfelt appreciation to him as we rounded out or family of three children. Dr. Lauersen delivered my second baby girl in September 1988.

There isn´t a day that goes by that I don´t think about Dr. Niels.
He not only delivered my son but saved my life twice. He resolved every issue I came across medically or emotionally. He was not only my doctor but a true friend, mentor and confidant. He is truly missed and the world will never be the same without him.

Yesterday was my son Jonathan's wedding day. Thinking back to him as a baby made me think of Dr Lauersen. And I happened upon this very sad news. It was a Tuesday evening in 1993. I was 6 weeks pregnant and bleeding. I had Dr.Lauersen's book and I decided just by chance to call the office and miraculously he himself picked up the phone. He said "how fast can you be here I'll wait for you" and the rest is history. I am eternally grateful for that man... Selfless dynamic caring compassionate loving are just a few of the words I would use to describe him. He certainly did gods work an angel on earth. I myself know of at least a dozen babies that would not be here without his intervention. We are all eternally grateful that a man like him existed and profoundly sad that he is no longer with us.. His wisdom & bedside manners were the best you can ask for. He is a true angel. I think of him often. Dr Lauersen was an angel in my life. I appreciated every visit to his office because I knew I was getting closer to being able to have the baby I so much wanted. Finally, on an April day, almost thirty years ago, my husband and I had our beautiful daughter with Dr Lauersen performing a C-section to assist the delivery. Dr Lauersen was loving, kind, and generous, both in spirit and in the everyday occasions. He was beautiful to behold and to know, and I cherished having him in my life. I was so happy to have my healthy, happy daughter, and I attributed her birth to his skills. During those days, his presence was full of love, sharing, and caring. Niels, I know you are in heaven, rest in peace. You will always have a place in my heart. To his family and children, my heartfelt condolences on his loss.

Dr. Lauersen was my Ob/GYN for many years. He delivered my son and, had it not been for him, neither of us might not been here. Later on, he diagnosed me with endometriosis, had surgery and was back on my feet in perfect order in no time. He was my go to doctor for everything. Loved his humor- I was never nervous about my appointments- I always knew that if there was anything wrong, he would take care of it.
On Thursday nights (his late night), it was standing room only. His very large receiving room was packed. Women from all walks of life. Dr. Lauersen took care of everyone of us. I had just moved to NYC at that time, and lived in Staten Island. As it was very late (about 1am) due to an emergency, he offered to take me home. In addition, Dr. Lauersen was always very concerned about the happiness and welfare of each and every patient.
Dr. Lauersen will be sincerely and greatly missed. There will never be another doctor like him. I have so many fond and wonderful memories. I live in Texas now, but, I would check to see how he was doing or to see if he had a new book out. This is how I came about this heartbreaking news. For a time, we emailed Christmas time. I was always very grateful for all he did for me and my son.
It is truly a very sad time. A true legend has left us.

Niels Lauersen made my daughter Savanna possible. He was there for us when no one else would help. He discovered what my issue was where other fertility doctors just took the easy way out. I will never forget how he made me feel on my first visit. When he said, "you will never see another bill." His next step was to look inside me to discover endometriosis and fix it. He encouraged me to read and understand what was happening. I have read all of his brilliant books. It was a Saturday when I got a call from him - he said today is the day - you are ovulating and you and your husband need come in to the office for an artificial insemination. And yes it was a Saturday, but it didn't matter to him. I was amazed. It was that day. That moment. That inspired human being who loved women and family and knew how to help asked us to come. And I am totally sure that it was then that Savanna was conceived. That was 26 years ago. I had been thinking of Dr. Lauersen for the past few months now and had wanted to reach out and thank him for my world. But I missed out. I am sending my love to him and will connect in another way and hope he will feel it. Dr. Lauersen, I love your smile and passion for the joy of life. You will always be in our hearts. And never ever forgotten. Thank you for all you've done for the world.

Dr Lauersen delivered our daughter after my wife had a tumultuous pregnancy including placenta previa and abruption. I remember the call from him as I was headed to NYC after our daughter had been delivered by emergency c-section. He called me right after the delivery. "Your daughter has Bardot lips". I knew everything was all right. "Your wife is recovering comfortably." He had the gentle touch of a great doctor and the bedside manner of someone who truly cared. Thank you Dr Lauersen. May you be remebered for your great service to your patients

The reason it hurts so much to separate is because our souls are connected. Maybe they always have been and will be. Maybe we’ve lived a thousand lives before this one and in each of them we’ve found each other. And maybe each time, we’ve been forced apart for the same reasons. That means that this goodbye is both a goodbye for the past ten thousand years and a prelude to what will come. Thank you for saving both my life as well as my mother’s. I will always remember the late night calls after 1am in your scrubs in between delivering babies in your white “Audi / park avenue ambulance” Meeting always at your favorite late night snack spot “J&G Melon” you always had the western omelette that you would gobble down and then would speak softly and say “ baby I’m not sleeping, I’m just closing my eyes for a minute but, am listening to everything your saying” as you would fall asleep briefly until your beeper would go off to dash and bring another life or ten into this world. You are and will forever be “The Greatest Of All Time”.

Niels was my best friend and former doctor. I could reach him at 2AM in his office, if I needed to talk to him privately. He helped me in medical problems as well as personally. He was often a guest in my home and loved my food. we have mutual friends- in Denmark as well. In the "old days when one could fly with presents from others than yourself" I would bring Niels's xmas presents to his family in Denmark and visa versa if I was nit traveling, Niels would bring my presents to my family in Denmark. We trusted each other like brother and sister and now I must live without that "brother". The generosity was we found in Niels. both physically and mentally. THANK YOU MY DEAREST FRIEND. Niels, I am saddened that we never got the chance to meet but I cherish the conversation we had on the phone. Learning about the person you were and what you believed in makes me proud to be your granddaughter. Youve made an incredible impact in this world and that will live on. Rest in peace, grandfather.
