NORMA VARSOS Obituary

VARSOS--Norma Marie,

(1925-2015) died on October 4th, 2015 as a result of septic shock. A mass was performed on Saturday, November 14th at our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Forest Hills, New York, in honor of her memory. The celebrant of the memorial was Father Pedro Cojina Vega, who flew in from his parish in Managua, Nicaragua for the event. Father Pedro is the brother- in-law of Dr. George Varsos, the son of the deceased. Norma Marie Varsos, the daughter of Antonio and Vittoria Violante, was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated as a pharmacist at the age of nineteen from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, the first school of pharmacy in the United States. She worked as a pharmacist at Merck Laboratories in New Jersey and later at the Philadelphia General Hospital where she met her husband, Dr. Aristedes Varsos. They married in 1956 and raised three children in Forest Hills, New York. Dr. Aristedes Varsos died in 2003 after forty seven years of marriage. They are survived by their three children: Norma Rhea Varsos, Cynthia Dayton, and George Varsos, M.D. Dr. George Varsos lives in Queens with his wife, Carmen, and son, Matthew. He is a radiation oncology specialist and Clinical Assistant Professor at Mt. Sinai Hospital of Queens.
