A friend just told me Paul passed away. He was a great mentor and friend to me through Circle Rep and Playwrights Horizons. He was also so very good to me when my brother died in the 80´s. My condolences to his family and all his friends

We were next door neighbors to Paul (and Stephen, and earlier, Evalyn), in Upstate, NY for about 10 years. Paul was always gentle and kind, helpful, intelligent, always acting with integrity and keen insight, and humble, considering the immense contributions to theatre, actors, productions,--the entire world of performing arts. I remember auditioning for Paul once long ago. When we moved next door to him, I remembered his responses to my singing, which were good. He approached complex situations with aplomb, and was the greatest neighbor we've had. Sitting in our living room, early in our move to our home with Evalyn, I recall his astute, yet quiet demeanor--at least in the neighborly arena. I was certainly dismayed when Paul and Stephen decided to move to San Francisco. Hearing of his loss, I could only hope that his suffering from cancer was not great. What a dear man, one unique and giving personality.

We lived across from Paul for at least 10 years. Evalon sailed by, and then came Stephen. We were very fond of Paul and, reading his memorial notes strikes us as to how humble he was in terms of how much he contributed to the world of theatre in which both my husband and I spent over 15 years performing professionally. I even remember auditioning for Paul. His credits to the world of theatre are astounding. He also loved children and told me personally how much it meant to him to be a father of Stephen's children. We can't believe he has gone so soon. We love him dearly and his gentle, articulate ways. Kathy and Ron Madden
