DIMSEY--Peter Swaine Peel, of New York City and Southampton, died on June 29, 2021 in Manhattan. Peter was born on July 5, 1937, in Yangon, Myanmar (formerly Rangoon, Burma) to Captain Geoffrey Whitting Dimsey of the Raiput Regiment of the British Indian Army and Daphne Paulet Dimsey. Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Virginia Mitchell Dimsey, his son, Christopher Peel Mitchell Dimsey (Jocelyn Wadsworth) and two grandchildren, Cayden Peel Wadsworth Dimsey and Atley Whitting Dimsey -- all of whom will miss his quick British wit and his tremendous athleticism as an Alpine skier and ocean sailor. Peter spent his youth in England, attending Cheltenham College and graduating from Christ College, Cambridge University. Following university, Peter served as Lieutenant in the British Army training soldiers in Alpine skiing technique. In 1970, Peter visited New York where he met Virginia, who was game to ski and sail with him. The promising business opportunities in the US convinced him to make his visit permanent. Peter and Virginia married in 1972, honeymooned on the slopes of Zurs, Austria and settled in New York City. Peter's distinguished business career began with senior marketing positions at General Foods, Avis and Seagram. He was president of MasterCard US and after a decade as Senior Executive Vice President of MBNA, he retired in 2005 and with Virginia, embarked on their biggest adventure. They circumnavigated the globe in their Oyster 62, S/Y Saildance II, departing from Southampton, England in 2005, visiting over 100 ports along their route, and completed their remarkable voyage in 2012. A member of The New York Yacht Club and The Royal Thames Yacht Club, Peter was a true yatchsman loved by many across the globe. A celebration of Peter's life will be held in the fall.
