PETER MURPHY Obituary
Peter J. Murphy, 76, Entrepreneur and International Businessman. Peter J. Murphy, an international businessman and consummate family man has died. Family members confirmed Murphy died Sunday, May 31, 2015 peacefully in his sleep of natural causes . He was born on February 24, 1939 in the Bronx. Murphy joined Designs for Vision in 1971 after a long career in the medical industry. He was responsible for designing a marketing program and creating an international and national sales force for "Designs." He pioneered the complete visualization solution which utilized magnification and illumination as successful tools for microsurgery. He was the Chief Financial Officer until his retirement in 2014. He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart, Maureen T. Murphy (nee O'Sullivan). He was the son of Joseph and Kathryn Murphy (deceased). He is survived by three brothers, Joseph, Frank and Stephen and one sister Mary Goretsky. His sister, Kathryn, predeceased him. In addition to his wife and siblings, he is survived by his children Patti and John Wagner, Jeanne and Bob Washuta, and Maureen and Chris Beil; his grandchildren Peter John (Kate) Wagner, Andrew Wagner, Tim Wagner, Meaghan Wagner, Luke Beil, Matthew Washuta, Ryan Beil, Kevin Beil, Natalie Washuta, Conor Beil, Audrey Washuta and Mackenzie Beil; and two great grandchildren, Jake Wagner and Charlotte Wagner. I was hired by Mr. Murphy as an independent representative and worked for DVI for 16 years. As with all of his new hires he had to meet you face to face. That's just the way he was.
I recall that his wisdom changed my opinion on the death penalty... he believed it made no sense and I was persuaded by his words. As for business he said that wealth is created only by planting a seed (agriculture) through education and from manufacturing that made a dollar grow exponentially. He was always proud of his children's education and independence.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Peter.
I spent a wonderful week in Northern Maine with him and a group of young men.

Thanks, Peter for your friendship, enthusiasm, and generous support for so many young physicians-in-training in our Department of Ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. Your innovative surgical telescopes have helped surgeons save the sight of many thousands of patients and in turn have brought much joy to the world. I know your family who you were always so dedicated to will miss tremendously. I hope they will find some solace in the knowledge of how much you contributed to the larger family of man.

Thanks Peter for being a memorable part of our child hood. Growing up you were a stable part. Thanks too for contacting me in my adulthood, we had a great time going over our lives.
