PHILIP DOUGLAS Obituary

DOUGLAS--Philip Le Breton. Philip Le Breton Douglas, 75, passed away on November 30, 2025 from prostate cancer. Philip is survived by his wife, Susan Wald Douglas, his children Eliza, Sam (Laura Hunt), Henry, grandson Felix, stepdaughters Julia and Diane Wald (Tompkins), former wife Lisa Kean Douglas, sisters Christine Tansey and Carolyn Douglas (Jon Jacobs), and four nephews. He was born in Paris on April 18, 1950 to Colette and Paul Douglas; shortly after, his family moved to Greenwich Village. He went to Grace Church School, Deerfield Academy, Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of International Affairs, and NYU School of Law. After graduation he clerked for a federal court judge, then joined Davis Polk in the litigation department. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York for five years before returning to private practice, first at Pillsbury Winthrop, then at Jones Day. During his career, he represented large infrastructure and manufacturing companies in disputes in state and federal courts and around the world. Philip was beloved by his family and many friends, who treasured him for his kindness, intelligence, sociability, enthusiasm for life, and great sense of humor. He was an outstanding writer, history buff, and avid reader. He loved skiing and golf, and most of all loved sailing his 1959 46-foot sloop Cyane. In later years, Philip divided his time between New York City and Bridgehampton. He is greatly missed. Memorial is at 4:00pm on Saturday, January 10, at Grace Church, 802 Broadway.
