Philip Goldstein Obituary

1925 - 2022
Philip ("Phil") Goldstein passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022, at the age of 97. A warm and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Phil lived life to the fullest and will be missed.

Born on May 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York, to Esther and Harry Goldstein, Phil was a natural musician, songwriter, athlete and friend. He served in World War II as a cryptographer in the Army Air Force from 1943-1946 in Southeast Asia.

After the war, he returned to New York and met his first wife, Gloria, with whom he had two children, Geri and Andrew. Phil went on to marry his beloved Rae, with whom he shared over 30 years, laughing, dancing and traveling the world.

Transitioning from military service to entrepreneurship, Phil followed in his father's footsteps and entered the printing industry in downtown Manhattan. Equipped with natural business sense and strong work ethic, Phil entered retirement with success and a one-way ticket to South Florida.

Affectionately called the "Piano Man" by his family, Phil was a lover of music and an avid piano player. He was also a fierce competitor, on the tennis courts, on the golf course, and playing card games with his grandkids. A quintessential "people person," Phil would light up a room and made great friends wherever he went.

Phil found his greatest pride and joy in his family. He was loved and is survived by his two children and their partners – Geri and Roy Liemer and Andrew and Susan Goldstein; his seven grandchildren and their partners – Alison and Bill Kinsey, Jodi Miller and Batya Sobel, Joshua and Ashley Liemer, Alex Goldstein, Ross and Liya Kahan-Goldstein, Amanda Goldstein and Jake Goldstein; and his six great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Rae.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phil's memory to National Association for Music Education (NAfME), PO Box 61, Lewiston, MA 04243-0061 (https://nafme.org/).
