I have gratefully brought to mind and shared Phil´s heart-warming mantra "be a love slinger" with many McDonogh `70 classmates who knew him - on the tennis team or otherwise. Phil´s legacy of love, medical scholarship and poetic light endures.

I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Dr. Lister - Phil. He helped my husband and me immeasurably after the loss of our baby in 2021. Even in our short time together he impressed upon me how remarkable of a human being he was - razor smart, uncommonly observant, truly kind. The world is a bit dimmer for his loss. I think of him often and will miss him.

Dear Elena and family,
I just learned about Phil's passing. My sympathy for your loss. I have memories of a kind and inspiring man from the Columbia Center. I have learned much from his book and referred to it in teaching on illness, grief and traumatic loss in Switzerland and will continue to do so in my work.
My warm wishes to you all.

Elena and family,
I was so very saddened to hear of Philip´s passing. We were classmates at McDonogh, and I remember what a bright, kind, talented person that he was. We did not keep in touch after leaving McDonogh, though our careers independently involved the medical field. I will keep Philip and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Elana and family,
I too was a McDonogh friend (`70) with Phil. Our paths did not cross after school, but it seems our adult passions and geography followed synchronistic nearby orbits. I shall hope to join you and Phil´s friends on August 10. I wish you and your family comfort in sadness with beautiful memories of living so very well. Shantih. Robert Kershaw

Elana and family,
I knew Philp at McDonogh. We are sorry for your loss. Remember all that he did with you and for you, and he will live in your heart forever. The sadness you feel today will turn to happy memories in the years to come.

Oh, Elena, I am so very very sorry. I was always so impressed with Philip's and your dedication to the mental health of children. He was so kind - even for a doctor he was warm and caring, and ethical.
