HARRISON--Phyllis Haggerty, a journalist, a traveler and a lover of fine cooking died of lung cancer on April 23rd in Cortlandt Manor, NY. She was 87. Phyllis was born April 14th, 1927 in Arlington, MA to Thomas and Henrietta Haggerty. She graduated from Boston University with a degree in Journalism. She worked as Publicity Director for several airlines-including Northwest Orient Airlines and Sabena Airlines-and contributed to numerous travel books. Phyllis married Basil Fraser Harrison in 1960 in New York, NY. They were happily married for 38 years before Basil died in 1998. Phyllis was an active member of the American Association of University Women for over 50 years where she helped empower women through education. Phyllis is survived by her sons Alexander Fraser Harrison of Croton-on-Hudson, NY and Scott Fraser Harrison of Bainbridge Island, WA; their wives and four granddaughters. Visitation will be held at Carter Funeral Home in Croton-on-Hudson NY on Sunday, April 27th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Croton-on-Hudson, NY on Monday, April 28th at 11am. Phyllis was one of my best volunteers for all the years I was in charge of the Volunteer Corps at WLT, but more importantly, she was one of my favorite people! She was always interested and interesting, full of good ideas and humor, and always willing to pitch in and help. She was a real class act. I will miss her.
