RENA DAVID Obituary

SHULKSY DAVID--Rena, 65, died peacefully in her sleep at home on February 19, 2023, with her husband, Dr. Sami David, at her side. The funeral took place on Tuesday, February 21, at the Riverside Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Shulsky David was born August 18, 1957, in Brooklyn New York. She attended Boston College, where she earned a degree in Political Theory with a concentration in Soviet foreign policy. While still an undergraduate, she was admitted to a prestigious graduate program in English literature in Oxford University. Mrs. Shulsky David was a multi-faceted successful entrepreneur, fueled by a passion to make a difference in the world. Her primary concerns were the devastating impact of climate change, and the possibility of U.S.- Soviet conflict. She co-produced the Emmy award-winning series, "Years of Living Dangerously" as well as the movie "Dying To Know" a documentary on the lives of Ramdas and Timothy Leary. Her real estate company, Shire National, of which she was the Chair and CEO, set the new "green" standard for nationally owned and managed real estate. Under her management, Shire National expanded from a New York-based real estate company to include properties throughout the country. An environ- mentalist since childhood, Mrs. Shulsky David founded Green Seal. Green Seal is the first and most widely respected environmental seal of approval. Green Seal now appears on major cities, hotel chains and thousands of products around the world and its standards are used in procurements by federal government agencies throughout the country. As the Soviet Union was collapsing, Mrs. Shulsky David founded and chaired the groundbreaking and historic "Swords into Plowshares" conference. At the time, the conference marked the first face-to-face meeting of the heads of the Soviet military with their counterpart heads of the American military since World War II. For her work in the creation of the conference, the heads of the Soviet military presented her with an award: part of a Soviet Intermediate Nuclear Force Missile, melted and made into a plowshare. Mrs. Rena Shulsky David was a founding member of The Social Venture Network, an international network of CEOs committed to running their business in a socially responsible manner. During her tenure as a member of the board of SVN, she helped guide the creation of the organization's "International Standards for Corporate Social Responsibility." Mrs. Rena Shulsky David is survived by her husband, Dr. Sami David.
