RICHARD DeSCHERER Obituary

DeSCHERER--Richard K. Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies deeply mourn the passing of a dear friend and colleague, Richard K. DeScherer, Bloomberg LP's counsel since its inception in 1981 and a longstanding board member. Dick, as he was known to all, was integral to Bloomberg LP's growth and success over the course of more than 40 years. He possessed a brilliant legal mind and was tirelessly devoted to his work. His insights and integrity, along with his unfailing common sense, made him an invaluable partner to the company and its board - and a trusted and admired colleague. Dick was also deeply committed to a wide variety of philanthropic causes, including the National Dance Institute and Lincoln Center, and he generously supported the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City. But nothing eclipsed his devotion to the fight against Lupus, which he helped lead alongside his wife, Jennie, through the Lupus Research Alliance. On behalf of everyone in the extended Bloomberg family, we wish to extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Jennie and their family: their son Christopher and wife Amanda, daughter Katie, five grandchildren, and all his loved ones. His legacy at Bloomberg and so many other organizations - and his efforts to assist in achieving life-saving scientific breakthroughs - will long outlive him.
