RICHARD WEEKS

RICHARD WEEKS Obituary

WEEKS--Richard N., formerly of Mountainside, NJ, died at the age of 97 on Sunday, August 17, 2025 after a brief illness. A 1950 Rutgers University graduate, he was the third-generation leader of Weeks Marine, Inc. which he helped transform from a small stevedoring business into an international industry leader in dredging, marine construction and tunneling. Mr. Weeks, inspired by his Rutgers engineering education and aware of the need for private philanthropy to benefit students, universities and society, donated funds for the construction of The Richard N. Weeks Hall of Engineering at Rutgers. This commitment was followed by an endowment for scholarship aid to engineering students, the largest such commitment Rutgers University had ever received. To date, some 130 students have received aid from his belief that students should not be burdened by years of student debt. Mr. Weeks was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2017 in recognition of his contributions to engineering and business. In 2001, he received the Moles Member of the Year Award recognizing his accomplishments in heavy construction. Mr. Weeks's wife, Viginia Stager Weeks, predeceased him. He is survived by six children: Richard S. Weeks (Candace), Elizabeth Dwyer (Thomas), Thomas Weeks (Sandra), Robert Weeks (Annette), Carolyn Cahill (John) and Christopher Weeks. He has 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grand- children. He is also survived by his companion of several years, Hallie Stewart. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in his memory either to The Salvation Army or to Homeless Solutions Inc. of Morristown, NJ.

Dick Weeks was hands down an Industry icon, strong leader with strong sound principles and was extraordinarily generous funding Engineering programs in New Jersey and Louisiana institutions.
