RICHARD ZALK Obituary

ZALK--Richard,

72, of Manhattan, died January 15 after a long illness. Richard was the devoted son of the late Joseph and Lee Zalk, protective and caring brother of Connie, much-loved uncle to David, husband of the late Sue Rosenberg Zalk and adoring nephew of Milton and Estelle Zalk and the late Martin and Judith Bloomberg and Hy and Sylvia Plotkin. For more than fifty years, he maintained a steadfast dedication to his legal practice and his clients, while his sharp wit, irreverence, and passion for photography, flying and astronomy helped define his life. He cherished his affiliation with the SoHo Photo Gallery, a co-op for photographers, for more than thirty years, serving as President for four. His loyalty to so many long-standing friends kept him ever-charming, attentive, creative, and warm even in his years of illness. Memorial celebration to be held Saturday, January 30th at 11am at the SoHo Photo Gallery, 15 White Street, New York, NY. Donations can be made to the SoHo Photo Gallery in his memory.

I am saddened to hear of Richard's passing and of your loss. As a member of the Gallery for many years (some time ago), I was very fond of him. His support and enthusiasm, level-headedness and gentle nature were valued by all and are fondly remembered by me. His love of photography was inspiring. He was certainly a nice guy, though insofar as I knew him, he was, more importantly, a good man.

To Rich ~ who loved 'Scottish' food and Mallomars, but also raw oysters. There was always the unexpected!

So many memories...
coming with us on our honeymoon, sharing the summer house, camping trips, New Year's eves together....

You are missed, dear friend!

I just found out last night speaking with Connie. For 30 years Richard has been my champion both professionally and personally, as a good friend. I even had a voice mail from him,it seems the day before he passed. This is a huge loss for his family and friends. R.I.P. special man. You will be missed by many.

We were fraternity brothers in the early '60s. Think of his quiet but self assured manner.

Please accept my sincerest condolences on the passing of Richard. I think that he would be proud of the mention of his spirit of "irreverence' in his obituary. It really was part of his charm.

Richard was a great friend and fellow techie. Our deepest condolences to Connie and family.

It's with heavy heart that I express my sorrow over Richie's death. He was a gentle and generous spirit who gave me his love and support unconditionally.

We were often at opposite ends of the political spectrum and invariably his last ditch argument would be "you're entitled to your own dumb opinions!" How could I refute such logic?

I feel the loss of his presence in so many ways, both big and small. I miss him dearly.
