RICK VIOLETTE Obituary
On Sunday, October 21, 2018, the New York Jockey Injury Compensation Fund lost a great leader. Rick Violette, a member of the board and its chair for more than 20 years, who guided the organization through its startup and difficult years, passed away. He was a highly respected trainer of thoroughbred horses who had an outstanding career with more than 800 wins. He guided the NYJICF in providing needed medical care and wage replacement for jockeys, apprentice jockeys and exercise riders when injured on a New York State racetrack. Before the NYJICF existed, these benefits were difficult, if not impossible, to obtain. Rick can be credited for providing benefits to those covered by keeping the NYJICF operating efficiently. We on the NYJICF Board of Directors and all covered riders owe him a great debt. He will be missed and remembered fondly. New York Jockey Injury Compensation Fund
