RITA CLARK Obituary

CLARK--Dr. Rita Weinberg, died at home on August 18. Dr. Clark was born in 1936 to Lily and Harold Weinberg. One of only two women in her class at Brooklyn College studying pre-med, she earned her M.D. from Columbia University in 1960. In 1956 she married Dr. Julian Clark, with whom she shared a medical practice. In addition to her psychoanalytic practice, Dr. Clark taught psychiatry residents at Maimonides Medical Center and served as an expert witness for disability hearings. She wrote a book on ethics for the American Psychoanalytic Association and became a regular speaker on the topic. A lifelong Brooklynite, Dr. Clark traveled widely, especially to Europe with a particular love of France. She was an avid cook and a generous host of memorable meals with family and friends. Dr. Clark was predeceased by her husband of 61 years in 2017 and is survived by daughters and sons- in-law, Melissa Clark and Daniel Gerke; Amy Sara Clark and David Westbrook; and grandchildren Dahlia, Benjamin, and Ella.

I spent 6+ yrs in analysis with Dr Clark- starting in 1971. She changed my life- I went back to school and entered Med School at the age of 33. I had a wonderful career as a physician- and give thanks to her frequently. Condlolences to her family.

In 1971, at the age of 28, I met Dr Clark as a patient -and spent 6+ years in psychoanalysis. During that time I went from a stay at home mom of 2 to going back to college for pre-med courses and ultimately acceptance to SUNY Downstate Medical School. I had a wonderfully fulfilling career as an Interventional Radiologist- and I owe it all to you, Rita Clark. My condolences to the family on the loss of a very gifted physician- and, I´m sure, a wonderful Mom!

No wonder why my letter never came back. I am so sad to see this. She was such a dedicated professional and always there to help. I'm so glad that I was able to speak to her even so recently. She is missed.

When I said to Rita , I´m becoming too selfish, she explained it´´s important to be self interested.
