ROBERT BLUM

BLUM--Robert Max. Former Counsel to Mayor Lindsay of New York City, competed as a saber fencer in the 1964 and 1968 Olympics Games, and former Assistant Attorney General of New York State, died peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, November 27, 2022 in Rensselaerville, NY. Mr. Blum was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 24, 1928 and was the son of the late Richard J. and Carolyn W. Blum. Mr. Blum and his spouse, Barbara B. Blum (deceased 2012), were public servants in the truest sense and close collaborators working tirelessly to advance the welfare of the residents of New York. After the birth of their second son, Jonathan, who is profoundly autistic, they helped co-found the Association for Metroarea Autistic Children, Inc. Following his time in city government, Mr. Blum was a civil litigator and ultimately a partner in the firm of Bangser, Klein, Rocca & Blum. Mr. Blum attended Trinity College, Hartford, CT, and Columbia University. He was a trustee of Trinity College in the 1970s and 1980s. He is survived by four children, Stephen, Jonathan, Thomas and Jennifer and their partners; a step-sister, Ellen Fertig; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on December 11, 2022 at 2pm at Conkling Hall, 8 Methodist Hill Road, Rensselaerville, NY, and on December 17, 2022 at 2pm at the Yale Club in New York City.
