A pillar of the opera which he loved above all other arts, and a peripatetic friend who seemed to be everywhere I wandered, especially the south of France, Robert and I often found ourselves in the same places. Cesare and he shared a life-sustaining relationship, partners in the deepest meaning of commitment and love. My heart goes out to Cesare at this sad time.

Janie and I were deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing. Having worked closely with Bob for many years at Gracie Square Hospital, I had the privilege and pleasure of learning from him and of developing a deep friendship with him. I admired him greatly as a human being and as a widely recognized and respected leader of world psychiatry. Bob and Cesare brought us into their circle of good friends in a way that has enriched our lives. He will be sorely missed. Our condolences and best wishes to Cesare.

Bob was a colleague, friend, leader, and teacher. We shared years at meetings, travels and practical experiences as hospital directors and healthcare workers. My memories of his contributions to patients and the public are extant.

I admired him, I respected him, I learned from him. I worked with him at Gracie Square Hospital and I also enjoyed our discussions on a major interest that we shared -- Opera! Rest in Pease and Rise in Glory. Move over angels, Bob Campbell is joining you!

The Herbert-Lewis family sends our heartfelt condolences to Cesare on the loss of his life companion Robert. They both were dear friends of my mom, Elinor Ross, with whom they shared many wonderful times.

I met Dr. Campbell as a brilliant doctor for whom I worked at Gracie Square Hospital, and was graced to have Robert as a friend for forty years. The last time I said goodbye to this handsome man at a social event I said I love you. My thoughts are with Cesare and all those who knew and loved him. He was one of a kind and will be with us forever.
