ROBERT DENNY

DENNY--Robert Breck Sr. April 8, 1948 - November 27, 2023. R. Breck Denny Sr., of New York City, Locust Valley, NY and Big Bay, MI died on Monday at the age of 75. As a young buck, Breck rode bikes with his siblings in Long Island, sailed in Woods Hole, fished in Michigan, and drove small cars on questionable European roads with close friends in the summer. He attended Green Vale and Groton School before graduating from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in History. He then promptly started as a banker at J.P. Morgan, where he worked for 25 years, before becoming the CFO of two industrials companies in Cleveland, OH, Medusa Corp. and LESCO respectively. He served on the boards of the New York Marble Cemetery and Cleveland Botanical Garden, among others - always working full-time and making himself useful long after retirement. The ultimate gentleman, he was understated and poignant; thoughtful and unflappable, measured beyond measure; and always left room for the ideas and words of others. He loved a great time - he would bask in the joy of seeing a great party come together. Nothing could get him to a dance floor faster than Motown or a New Orleans brass band. Breck loved children ("weenies") and made them feel important. He preferred the meaningful conversation of a few to the cacophony of many. He was a fantastic writer - descriptive yet straightforward. And he had a signature, crescendoing layered laugh that has an indelible place in the minds of those lucky enough to have heard it. He is preceded in death by his parents George Parkman Denny Jr. and Elizabeth Beatrice Whitney Denny, and his son Robert Breck Denny Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Ninna Denny; adoring daughters Liza Denny Oneglia, Carter Denny Adams and Louise Denny Considine; siblings Phyllis Denny Taylor, George Parkman Denny III, and Daniel Denny; five grandchildren and many more family and friends. He is missed endlessly by all. In lieu of flowers, one may consider a donation to Westbury Friends Cemetery or Groton School.
