Bob Kingston was one of my father's oldest friends. They taught together at Manhattanville and Sarah Lawrence before I was born, and my father followed Bob to NEH in 1972. He and Edith were godparents for my brother Tim and I.

I'm sorry to hear of his passing, he is missed.

Since 1981, Bob Kingston grandly influenced our work with the Charles F. Kettering Foundation. His contributions to our thinking about "What does it take for democracy to work as it should?" are immeasurable. What great fortune it was to be in his company. His wisdom guided us and it will continue to guide us.

For 18 years Bob and I produced the public television program, A Public Voice. This was one of the longest running independently produced public affairs programs in America. It was an immense pleasure working with Bob for those nearly 2 decades. A Dieu mon ami.
