ROBERT LANG Obituary

LANG--Robert Todd.

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his large and supportive family on February 6. 2018. He was born July 2, 1924 in New York City. Todd was known for his loyalty. At 93 years young, he had one wife, one job and one school. He loved the law, Sunday dinners with his family and was a man of varied interests and passions. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Yale Football, tennis with Anna, boxing with his trainer (David), golf and the occasional Glenlivet. After receiving his undergraduate and law degrees from Yale University, he became co-managing partner of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and chair of the Corporate Department. He served as chair of, and participated in, a multitude of boards including: ABA's Business Law Section Committees on Corporate Governance, Federal Regulation of Securities, Task Force on Listing Standards of Self- Regulatory Organizations, Listing Standards and Corporate Governance, The Task Force on Shareholder Proposals, The Task Force on Review of the Federal Securities Laws and its Advisory Committee. Additionally, he chaired The Legal Advisory Board of the NASD, The Special Committee on Shareholder Voting Rights of the American Stock Exchange, The Board of Advisors for Yale Law School's Center for the Study of Corporate Law, The Yale Law School Fund and was the Director of Human Rights First. He is a fellow of Brandeis University and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the fields of Corporate Law and Mergers & Acquisitions Law. He served as a trustee of the Irma T. Hirschl and Monique Weill-Caulier Trusts, which provide funds for medical research, medical scholarships and charitable organizations. Todd was the first recipient of the Simeon E. Baldwin Award from the Yale Law School Center for the Study of Corporate Law for distinguished service in law and business. He also received the Golden Torch of Hope Award from the City of Hope, the Community Service Award from Brandeis University, the Learned Hand Award from the American Jewish Committee, and the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Public Education Association. He is the author and co-author of numerous books and articles about Corporate and Securities Law. Todd is survived by Joann Rosenberger Lang, his wife of 68 years, children William Lang (wife Sandra Smith- Lang), James Lang (wife Sally Lindsey), Nancy Lang Adler (husband Howard Adler), and Carolyn Kay (husband William Kay), grandchildren Jessica Wachler (husband Justin Wachler), Stephanie Ulan (husband Jeremy Ulan), Becky Reback (husband Daniel Reback), Margo Lang (fiance Avinash Gandhi), Michael Todd Adler, Seth Lang, Bryan Lang, David Lang and Jamie Adler and great-grand- children Charlotte Ulan and Zachary Wachler. Todd had a great sense of humor and had an affinity for acronyms so after a VVLL, RIPT. The family will be receiving at the Frank E. Campbell "The Funeral Chapel," 1076 Madison Avenue (81st), from 7pm-9pm on Thursday, February 8. Services at Temple Emanu-El, Fifth Ave at 65th Street, 10am, on Friday, February 9. Entombment will be private.
