ROBERT MOSES

MOSES--Robert Parris. The President, Trustees, faculty, staff, and students of Hamilton College mourn the passing of civil rights icon Robert Parris Moses, a member of the Class of 1956. Bob Moses was the Mississippi field director for the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee and the founder of the 1964 Freedom Summer Project. In 1982, with funding from his MacArthur Fellowship, he founded the Algebra Project to promote math literacy as an essential component of a student's education. Courageous and determined, Bob Moses has been an inspiration and a hero for those committed to equality, justice, and freedom. He exemplifies the highest ideals of a Hamilton education and was awarded an honorary degree in 1991.
