ROBERT RIFKIND

RIFKIND--Robert S. The Leo Baeck Institute New York mourns the passing of longtime Trustee Robert S. (Bob) Rifkind on March 12, 2025. Joining the Board of Trustees in 1999, Bob supported the mission of LBI to preserve German Jewish history in innumerable ways. His significant generosity aimed at supporting our scholarship and securing our library, driven by his passionate belief in LBI as a research institute. Bob was a brilliant scholar himself, having earned a B.A. summa cum laude from Yale in 1958 and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1961, before becoming an Assistant to the U.S. Solicitor General and a highly respected partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He brought his sharp analytical mind, boundless curiosity for Jewish history, and warm wisdom and humor to his leadership role at LBI.
